Narzissenroute
Monschau-Höfen
The Narzissenroute, or narcissus route near Höfen, on the edge of the Eifel National Park, offers a
great supplement to the Eifelsteig. In the Perlenbach and Fuhrtsbachtal nature reserve, the yellow narcissi turn the meadows into sweet-smelling carpets of flowers during the spring.
The good quality of the Perlenbach water enabled the river pearl mussel to thrive here, and from the 17th to 19th centuries, pearls were even cultivated here. Today, as elsewhere, the mussel is considered to be almost extinct.
From the Höfener Mühle (Perlbacher Mühle) mill, the narcissus route follows the Perlenbach stream until it flows into the Fuhrtsbach stream. The route then continues through the Jägersieftal valley over a hill and down into the nature reserve, along the Perlenbach stream and through to the Perlbach reservoir.
