Aussichtsturm Mosenberg

Hikers who climb the Mosenberg should definitely climb the lookout tower. A 360° view around the region of the Mosenberg group, into the villages of Bettenfeld and Manderscheid is simply a dream. Enjoy the silence, the far-reaching view and take a seat on the benches. Nature offers its special features here in every season. Stop and explore the Mosenbergspitze at 517 metres above sea level.

Parking: Visitors should use the Hinkelsmaar/Kratersee car park or the car park at the replacement fishing lake. To do so, simply follow the signs coming from Manderscheid via the L16 before entering Bettenfeld. From here, hikes of about twenty minutes each lead to the observation tower.

Castles of Manderscheid

The spa town of Manderscheid is most famous for two medieval castle ruins that stand directly opposite each other on steep mountain spurs not far from the town's alleyways. The massive complexes are separated only by the little Lieser river and a meadow, which in summer becomes a perfect place for a breather while hiking the Eifelsteig trail or for a family picnic with children. On a weekend in August, however, the castles and the meadow are ideal settings for a spectacular festival with quaint crafts, jugglers, jousting tournaments and minstrel singing. In Advent, the Manderscheid Castle Christmas lends the town a special magic. The freely accessible upper castle with its five-storey keep still looks martial today. The lower castle can be explored on guided tours - even at night - or on your own; it only remains closed in bad weather.

Oberburg Manderscheid

The upper forts is the older of the two Manderscheider forts. It was always owned by the Trier until the dissolution of the Electoral State and its destruction by the French (1673). Today, the well-preserved ruin is owned by the town of Manderscheid and is freely accessible.
