Hiking on the Eifelsteig in shortened stages from Manderscheid to Trier
From the famous Manderscheid castles to the Moselle metropolis of Trier, which shines with its ancient sites - that's a total of 75 kilometers of hiking bliss on the Eifelsteig trail through the southern Eifel. Five stages of between ten and twenty kilometers in length make it easy to move through the dense forests and rocky stream valleys of this historic landscape.
Especially at the beginning, along the Lieser from Manderscheid to Himmerod Monastery, there are spectacular sections. It is no coincidence that the Lieser Trail, which follows the Eifelsteig, is considered one of the most beautiful hiking routes in Europe. Himmerod Abbey, situated in a secluded location in the Salmtal valley, is the oldest Cistercian abbey, founded by Bernard of Clairvaux himself. Here you are surrounded by the peace and serenity of earlier times. Further south, always towards the Moselle, you reach the Meulenwald forest. Bruch Castle, the legendary Genoveva Cave in the bizarre red sandstone and villages nestled in deep valleys such as Kordel alternate in the south of the Eifel with wide heights, for example near Zemmer. Time to take a deep breath.
Finally, you reach your destination in Trier, Germany's oldest city. The Romans founded it in a sweeping section of the Moselle valley, flanked by red, towering cliffs. If you fancy some hands-on history, you can experience a guided tour of the city here.
Comfort is part of the hiking tour, for example you don't have to carry your own luggage and your hosts will provide you with lovingly prepared packed lunches along the way.
