Junkershammer – wo Eisen Funken schlug
Stolberg
At Junkershammer, water and fire came together to shape iron – a special kind of work that no longer exists today.
On the outskirts of Zweifall lie the traces of the former Junkershammer – a hammer forge from the 17th century, operated with the power of the Vicht. The water drove the heavy hammers that shaped glowing iron into tools, nails, and fittings.
The power of water determined the rhythm of work: Without it, there was no movement, no strike, no spark flying. And yet such workshops were a technical advancement for their time – they strategically harnessed nature and turned its energy into a tool.
Today, only the terrain forms, watercourses, and remnants of walls remind us of this era when craftsmanship and landscape were so closely intertwined.
