Klapperweg – die Kraft der Vicht

Stolberg

Open today
Whoever listens to the Vicht hears how water tells stories – of centuries of work and development.

Along the Klapperweg, it becomes clear how much the brook has shaped the landscape and life. For a long time, its water set mill wheels in motion, lifted heavy hammers, and powered grinding shops where metal was processed with water power.

Thus, the Vicht became the foundation for craftsmanship and early businesses in the valley. Mill ditches, ponds, and old weirs still testify today to how water was tamed, divided, and directed. Every drop was valuable – and often its course led to disputes over its use and rights.

Today, the Vicht flows more freely again, yet its power remains visible and tangible: in the shapes of the terrain, on the walls at the bank, and in the visible testimonies of a bygone era.
