Ich bin die grüne Decke des Waldes
Stolberg
I am a leaf – delicate green in spring, dark in summer, and colorful in autumn.
High up in the treetops, I form the green canopy of the forest with many other leaves. Without us, there would be no shade, no oxygen, and no life in the forest. For through sunlight, we produce food for the trees and oxygen – this is called photosynthesis.
When we fall to the ground in autumn, we are broken down by small animals and fungi and become part of the earth. This is how the cycle begins anew. Although we leaves are small, we are irreplaceable for the forest.
Become a leaf researcher: Collect three different leaves and compare their shapes and colors. Can you discover which tree they come from?
