Finkenbergkirche und Kupfermeisterfriedhof: Glaube und Arbeit in Stolberg

Roetgen

The Old Kirchweg makes visible what it meant to "go to church." Because for the Reformed families from Roetgen, it was to be taken literally.

Your destination was Stolberg – a place where urban history and religious life come together. Here they reached the Finkenberg Church after almost 19 kilometers.

This Protestant church, built in 1721, was a spiritual home for many families from Stolberg, as well as for the Reformed families from Roetgen, who regularly made the long journey here.

In close proximity lies the copper master cemetery. It tells of Stolberg's economic history and of entrepreneurial families that shaped the region while also supporting the Protestant life. Work, faith, and social development were closely intertwined here.

Moment of remembrance: Stop briefly before you continue and pause. Behind you – or in front of you – lie kilometers that were not leisure but religious obligation. Week after week. In every weather. Can you imagine making this journey regularly?
