Touristinformation Hillesheim
Hillesheim
Situated on a Roman road and boasting a stately castle, the Frankish settlement was a central location in the Eifel region very early on. Hillesheim is mentioned for the first time in the register of goods of the monastery in Prüm in 943. It is said to have been named after the Frankish nobleman Hildin - the home of Hildin. The renovated town center is surrounded by the still well-preserved and accessible town wall (accessible from mid-March to the end of October).
Well-stocked department stores and small boutiques, specialist craft stores and a number of cozy cafés and restaurants invite you to linger. The Eifelsteig trail, thriller hiking trails, cycle and themed trails and other signposted routes showcase the diversity around Hillesheim and the Hillesheim region.
