Magic of the North - Adventures in Norway, Sweden & Finland by Walter Steinberg and Siglinde Fischer.

Lapland, the rugged, wild land on the northern edge of Europe, stretches from Norway across Sweden and Finland to the Kola Peninsula in Russia. Its untamed nature has set the rhythm of life for Sámi and southern Scandinavian immigrants since time immemorial. Lapland's lavish beauty has captivated travelers and locals alike since time immemorial with its wild, rugged, lush green cliffs, majestic, snow-covered fells, gnarled birch trees, wild rivers and intoxicating autumn colors.
Walter Steinberg and Siglinde Fischer have traveled to wild Lapland again and again throughout the seasons - most recently accompanied by their mongrel dog Motte. The three of them traveled together on foot, on snowshoes or in a canoe. They followed the Kungsleden trail, which runs through Sweden's highest mountains near the Norwegian border, for over four hundred kilometers: Initially, troll flowers and snowfields line the path, later blueberries, birch mushrooms and the first fresh snow.

The Torneträsk, one of Lapland's countless lakes, invites you to a canoeing adventure. In the wintry wilderness of Sweden's Sarek National Park, Steinberg and Fischer were able to experience the Northern Lights at -28°C and enjoy the endless winter wonderland. The two adventurers explored the Norwegian Arctic Ocean by kayak and lost themselves in the maze of islands on the huge Lake Inari. In a reindeer herd, Sami catch their animals from thousands of reindeer. Steinberg presents all of this up close, as well as the shimmering glacial ice of Svartisen, the ephemeral beauty of delicate flowers or the hard work of gold miners at Ivalojoki in Finland.
Despite all the mosquitoes, despite the harsh weather conditions: Lapland never fails to captivate with its lavish beauty. Let us take you on a journey into the untamed, intoxicatingly beautiful nature of the far north!
